From the 17th to the 21st of September 2012 a group of students and teachers from Switzerland visited Greece and the Aqua Divers Club Diving Centre, as part of their Swiss school's Personal Development Week programme.

The concept of this programme is to assist local communities, by offering services, that would benefit the community and the environment.

The group that came to Greece consisted of 21 students between the ages of 16 – 18 years old and were from a variety of countries including UK, South Africa, Holland, to name a few.

Aqua Divers Club had organized a special programme for the group in order to learn about the underwater environment. The Dive Centre, in further developing its relationship with the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre Archelon, organized visits to the centre , for the group, in order to be make them more aware of the problems experienced by sea turtles in their natural environment.

So the group spent a couple of mornings at the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre Archelon, in Glyfada, helping to nurse/feed the turtles and doing some renovation work to the centre. The students, also, assisted at the release of two rehabilitated turtles back into the sea.

The afternoons were spent by the group at the dive centre, where they had their first experience with the underwater world. Aqua Divers Club organized for them a special programme to learn how to scuba dive and collect safely rubbish from the sea. This training culminated in two underwater clean up that took place at two different dive sites in the Anavissos/Palea Fokia area of Attica. The students collected over 200 kgs of rubbish including tires, batteries, cans, plastic bottles and bags plus the remains of a sunken boat.

The trip was a great success with the school adopting a number of turtles from the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre Archelon, assisting at a turtle release in the sea, and all the participants receiving their PADI Discover Scuba Diving Certification from Aqua Divers Club andProject Aware Certificates, which were distributed by the chief of the Port Police from Palea Fokia, Lieutennant Theoharis Stillianos.
